Josephine McVeigh / Josie
Retreat Home Caretaker
Josie’s professional background is rooted in community and social work, with a particular focus on supporting individuals affected by domestic and sexual abuse. Her career was shaped by a strong commitment to care, advocacy, and creating safe, supportive environments for others.
In 2018, Josie and her partner John chose to embrace a new chapter of life, taking early retirement and relocating from Ireland to Spain. Four years later, they found their home in the campo just below Vélez-Blanco, where they now enjoy a slower, more connected way of living in close relationship with the land and local community.
Since settling in Andalusia, Josie has rekindled her love of cooking and crafts. She has a deep appreciation for wholesome, vegetarian food and takes great pleasure in preparing nourishing meals for friends, family, and guests. From hosting shared dinners to baking birthday cakes for the ever-growing circle of neighbours, her kitchen has become a place of warmth, generosity, and connection.
Josie also enjoys sharing her creativity through craft and jewellery-making workshops for local children and visitors, offering simple, joyful ways to bring people together. As caretaker of the retreat house, she brings a grounded presence, a welcoming heart, and a genuine love of hosting—helping guests feel at home, nourished, and cared for during their stay.
