Joanna Bojczewska / Doyu

House Host and Retreat Co-Facilitator at Wild Ivy House

Joanna Bojczewska (Doyu) first encountered Zen meditation at the age of 17 while spending two years in India on a United World Colleges scholarship, immersed in the mountain ecologies of the Western Ghats and the Himalayas. This formative time seeded in her a deep and enduring awareness of the ecological basis and challenges of modern humanity.

In 2012, she shifted from academic research in Social Anthropology toward hands-on sustainability work, training in regenerative landscape design, organic farming, and agroecology. Around the same time, an encounter with Mondo Zen Dialogue opened a path of contemplative practice. She formally began Integral Zen training in 2013, took vows with Jun Po Roshi in 2015, and later facilitated Mondo Zen retreats in Europe with Doshin Roshi.

From 2019 to 2024, Doyu completed a five-year Integral Zen priest training under Daicho Roshi within the Rinzai Zen Order. She co-managed the training centre in Spain now known as Wild Ivy House, which she continues to sustain as a place of practice, inquiry, and regeneration. She studies with teachers in both the Zen and Dzogchen lineages.

Professionally, Doyu works as a sustainability consultant and regenerative designer supporting European food systems and related initiatives. She loves walking in the Sierra María–Los Vélez and active imagination work as a path of transformation.
